Thank You

A very big THANK YOU to David Lewis of TY Lewis Associates who ran the Dale 10 k in September as part of team Noble Harbour, who, in addition to help raise some £500 for the Mount Community Association , also raised an additional £250 for Cancer Research.

The cheque is currently winging its way to Cancer Research UK.

This was a very brave (the run!) and generous act (the donation )on behalf of Mr Lewis.

Diolch yn fawr, David

Women in Business

If you happen to find yourself flicking through the pages of The Western Telegraph next week you will find an article on Women in Business in Pembrokeshire.

Part of the feature includes a focus on the female influence in Noble Harbour and illustrates our ethos:

Helen Noble returned to the legal profession in 2006 when she was instrumental in the setting up of Noble Harbour Solicitors in Milford Haven Marina.

The practice is about to enter its third year and in the process of opening a second Pembrokeshire office.

Also a psychology graduate and coach, Helen has integrated her knowledge and experience gained from working in the public sector to create a private legal practice with a difference.

Helen believes it is the personality of the small business leader which sets the tone for the future success of the business. She also believes that all colleagues need to share the vision to ensure the sustainable growth of any business; and that people function most effectively within a resilient environment.

Helen suggests that to be successful in business:

o Your credibility will rest on your thorough knowledge and understanding of your product or service;
o It is important to realise that confidence is an inner strength, and not necessarily a loud voice
o Integrity is of the utmost importance- always say what you think and then do what you say.
o Trust your intuition or your gut instinct, as you won’t always be able to see the full extent of the big picture on which to base your decisions
o Even when the going gets tough, pick out the positives and focus on your vision.

Breathe easy!

Well, it\'s over...

The Dale 10k saw all 6 members of Team Noble Harbour crossing the finish line with smiles and a sense of satisfaction, with the rest of us proudly clapping them on.

We breathed a huge sigh of relief, and some of us are walking around the office a little stiff legged today!

We raised around £500 for the Mount Community Association - the amount to be finalised on receipt of all funds- and had a fun day in the sun.

Well done to you all!

The Big Bang

The Legal Services Act, which received Royal Assent on 30th October 2007 and comes fully into force in 2012, reforms the way legal services in England and Wales are regulated and puts the consumer interest at the heart of the regulatory framework.

The Act ushers in important opportunities for solicitors to team up with non-lawyers and to attract capital for their businesses in a carefully regulated environment. As a result, the framework of the regulation of legal services will change radically.

Stephen Mayson, head of the Legal Policy Institute think tank set up to examine the implications of the Legal Services Act has argued in several prominent speeches that the legal services reforms are intended to bring about upheaval and reform in the legal services market and that the forces unleashed could be catalytic. Law firms will need to restructure and possibly refinance to consolidate, to recruit, train and promote sensibly, and to engage in even more sophisticated strategy and management.

Mayson predicts that many law firms will be forced to consolidate or go out of business.

Richard Susskind’s new book, ‘The End of Lawyers?’ (subtitled, Rethinking the Nature of Legal Services), points to a future in which the legal profession needs to undergo a significant transformation.

According to the book the legal profession will need to react to two market forces: firstly, an irresistible pull towards commoditisation and secondly, ongoing development and uptake of information technology which will become increasingly important for cutting costs and delivering legal services to the web generation of consumers.

As with all changes, there will be those with the tendency to resist the (inevitable) situation, seeing it as a problem; and those who will choose to view the changes as an opportunity and a challenge.

Even a choice to do nothing is still a choice.

There is always a choice.

Holiday Time!

Well, it is for some of us... a year long stamp duty holiday was officially announced on the news today.

So for those buying a property up to the value of £175,000 within the next year, their costs will be reduced. The cost of stamp duty payable on purchases is now:

Residential Property - purchase price

Rate of Stamp Duty Land Tax

upto £175,000 (until 2 September 2009 inclusive)

0%

£175,001 - £250,000

1%

£250,001 - £500,000

3%

£500,001 or more

4%

‘You always explained things clearly and we always felt comfortable to ask. We felt you were making every effort on our behalf’

‘The professional website helped a lot’

‘Service was first class’

‘Melanie was wonderful!’
